Mathematics is much more than just numbers and formulas—it thrives on curiosity, creativity and the courage to take on new challenges. That is exactly what28 students from the International Bilingual School Munich (IBSM) impressively demonstrated this year when they participated in the international Kangaroo Math Competition .
What makes us particularly proud at IBSM is not only the high number of participants, but above all the courage and enthusiasm of our youngest mathematicians. One first-grader and two second-graders voluntarily took on the third-grade problems—a wonderful sign of a love of learning, self-confidence, and the desire to surpass their own limits.
A truly special moment of joy was the success of one of our students, whoreceivedaspecial awardand is now among thetop 5 % of her grade level in all of Germany. This outstanding achievement fills us with great pride and shows what is possible when talent, motivation, and support come together.
The Kangaroo Competition is a globally recognized multiple-choice math competition for students in grades 3 through 13, held every March. Its goal is to spark an interest in mathematical thinking and to encourage children and teenagers to engage with mathematical problems independently, with curiosity and with enthusiasm. Currently, around 6 million students in over 100 countries participate—in Germany alone, there were over 880,000 participants in 2025.
We are incredibly proud of all IBSM students who participated in the Kangaroo Math Competition. Their dedication, focus and enthusiasm for math reflect exactly what we stand for as a school: learning with joy, courage and an international perspective.
