General Information About IBSM

IBSM is an elementary school for children in grades 1 through 4. A new campus on Feldmochinger Straße will also house a combined facility with a nursery and preschool—offering a bilingual program from birth through the end of elementary school.

No. IBSM has been a state-approved full-day elementary school since 2010 and a certified IB World School since 2017.

The school is currently located at Lerchenauerstraße 197, 80935 Munich.
The IBSM is expected to move to its new campus at Feldmochinger Straße 7, 80992 Munich, starting at the end of 2026. Please also note that the administrative office has a separate address and is not located at the school.

Yes, the IBSM follows the Bavarian school calendar, including all official school breaks and holidays.

Concept & Instruction

Each class is taught by two teachers, one who speaks German and one who speaks English. Following the “one person—one language” principle, each teacher consistently communicates in their own language. In first grade, both teachers are often in the classroom at the same time; in higher grades, this varies depending on the schedule.

Not always. In first grade, both teachers are very often present at the same time, since the children need more support at the beginning. In third and fourth grade, each teacher has more independent lessons—sometimes taught only in German, sometimes only in English, and sometimes bilingually.

The PYP is a globally recognized educational program of the International Baccalaureate Organization for children ages 3 to 12. It promotes holistic, interdisciplinary learning driven by curiosity. At IBSM, it is fully integrated with the Bavarian LehrplanPLUS curriculum.

School Hours & After-School Care

School hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday

We are currently offering the so-called “Early Birds” program free of charge from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. Starting in the 2026/2027 school year, school will begin at 8:30 a.m. Drop-off time is from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m.

Yes. After school, we offer a wide variety of afternoon activities, such as chess, yoga, capoeira, sewing, and more. In most cases, these activities start in October and run until the end of the school year. Depending on the activity, the cost ranges from 30 to 100 € per month. The afternoon activities follow immediately after school and usually begin at 4:45 p.m. and last until 5:45 p.m.

School bus

Yes. We offer a school bus service with several routes in the Munich area. The routes are adjusted annually to meet demand. With a maximum of 7 children per bus, personalized care is guaranteed.

You can find the prices for the full route and the half-day option here under " Our School."

Costs & Registration

IBSM tuition is based on the family’s annual gross income. Use our tuition calculator on the website to get an initial, non-binding estimate. The actual tuition amount will be determined based on the income documentation you submit.

Step 1: Fill out the online registration form → automatic placement on the waiting list
Step 2: Submit your documents
Step 3: Acceptance or placement on the waiting list
Please note: The completed registration form does not constitute a contract or a binding registration.

The open house takes place as a morning session from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It begins with a group reading session in German and English, followed by a station tour covering four areas: German, English, math concepts, and gross motor skills. The session concludes with a snack break together.
The focus is not on prior knowledge, but on school readiness.
Examples: Can the child follow a task for a short time, understand instructions, and wait patiently in a group?
Even children with no knowledge of English can complete all the stations without any problems. We assess openness to a new language, not language proficiency.

Yes, enrollment during the school year is possible if there are openings.

Transfer & Future

Since the IBSM covers all the content relevant to the transition as outlined in the Bavarian LehrplanPLUS, students can transfer to a public or private Gymnasium. The IBSM provides intensive preparation for all children who wish to transfer to a Gymnasium, helping them prepare for the three-day trial classes in German and mathematics.

No. IBSM is an elementary school that serves grades 1 through 4. After graduating, the children transfer to a secondary school of their choice.

New School Campus

The move to the new school campus at Feldmochinger Straße 7, 80992 Munich, is planned for 2026. An exact date has not yet been set.

The new school campus brings together a daycare center, preschool, and elementary school under one roof for the first time. Highlights include our modern spatial design with “marketplace” learning environments, which perfectly complement our educational philosophy.
